Jesse Blom (b. Haarlem, 1995)

His practise consists of conceiving gestalt works through the synthesis of his own work across the domains of photography, music and performance, and collaboration with artists from alternative disciplines. These gestalt works explore - among other things - socio-economic disparities, personal expressions of the absurd, and obscurity as a metaphorical vessel to expose systemic injustices and their respective consequences related to marginalized groups within hegemonic cultures.

Through the composition of music in which he sublates different musical-genres; mainly minimalist, chamber-jazz, and classical traditions, he aims to express his abstract inner world that serves as a point of ontological discovery. From this, ideas related to the outcome of his endeavors take shape to form the building blocks of a gestalt work.

The performance aspect is influenced by the compositional elements of the music, through the structural balancing of motivic development, freely improvised passages and deliberate juxtaposition, he aims to express that same abstract inner world in a relatively more concrete corporeal manner. In relation to his experience of synesthesia, the scenography is further developed and depending on the thematic material - whether abstract or concrete - the possibilities of collaborative efforts are explored.
